A konzulátus érdekvédelmi feladatai
A konzulátus érdekvédelmi feladatait a konzuli védelemről szóló 2001. évi XLVI. törvény, illetve a törvény végrehajtásáról szóló 17/2001. (XI.15.) KüM rendeletben foglaltak alapján látja el.
Kérjük, hogy a jogszabályokat olvassa el, mielőtt a konzulátus segítségét kéri valamely ügy intézésében.
A külföldre utazó, illetve külföldön tartózkodó magyar állampolgárok saját magukért, illetve a gondozásukban, felügyeletük alatt álló személyekért maguk felelősek. A konzuli védelem feltételezi a felelős állampolgári magatartást, és szükség esetén az együttműködést a konzulátus munkatársaival.
A konzulátus a magyar közigazgatás részeként működő hivatal, munkatársai kormánytisztviselők, akikre – bizonyos eltérésekkel – a kormánytisztviselőkre Magyarországon is irányadó jogszabályok vonatkoznak.
Amennyiben egy magyar állampolgár anyagi segítségre szorul, családja, rokonai, ismerősei a Western Union pénzküldő szolgáltatás segítségével tudnak azonnal (egy-két órán belül) pénzt küldenia számára. Erre vonatkozóan lásd a honlap „Gyors pénzküldési lehetőség" menüpontját.

If you do not meet these conditions but believe that you are a Hungarian citizen and are entitled to a Hungarian passport, please read through the content of the „Hungarian citizenship” section.
Passports include facial and fingerprint biometrics and signature.
Please read the information under the subheadings one by one/ in order. (to do so, click on the + sings):
Adult applicants (or guardian, caretaker) can only submit their application in person.
Photo, fingerprints and signature are taken electronically by a device at the Consulate.
Passport applications can be submitted at the Consular Office of the Hungarian Embassy in person. All appointments must be booked priorly.
The Embassy and the Consular Office are located at different addresses. Passport applications are submitted at the Consulate at the below address:
First Floor, 100 Brompton Road, London, SW3 1ER
Above 12, fingerprints must be provided, therefore passport applications cannot be submitted at Honorary Consuls in the case of adult applicants.
When applying for a passport with a guardian, the adult person placed under guardianship must also appear at the application.
If the applicant has a serious health condition and requires special procedure please, contact us via email.
There is no form that should be filled out prior to the appointment. Forms will be filled out by the consular administrator based on the presented documents which are then signed by the applicant (or guardian, caretaker).
In order to submit an application, the applicants must bring along all the documents listed below that they are in possession of:
- a valid passport or one that expired not more than a year ago;
- in case you do not have a passport, a valid ID card or one that expired not more than a year ago;
- in case you do not have any of the above, your original Hungarian birth certificate;
- in case you do not have any of the above, your valid Hungarian or foreign driving license or foreign passport (provisional driving licenses cannot be accepted);
- in case your new passport will be issued to a name that is different from the one in your previous passport/ID card, the Hungarian document proving the name change (e.g. original name change certificate, or birth or marriage certificate);

Should you wish to bear the doctoral title – and such title is not yet in the Hungarian personal data and address register (SZL) – you will have to present the document authorising you to bear the title; in case you obtained the doctoral title abroad, you will have to present its naturalisation certificate or the legalised copies thereof.
Should the passport application is to be submitted by a legal guardian, the guardian, in addition to the above documents, must present the following documents as well:
- his/her valid form of identification (passport or ID card issued by an EEA member state or a full – not provisional!- driving licence issued by the United Kingdom/an EEA member state)
- the guardianship order issued by a court of law
Such an order issued by a Hungarian court may only be accepted if it cannot be appealed (i.e. it is final or legally binding).
Such an order issued by a British court may only be accepted if
- the person under guardianship is a citizen of the United Kingdom as well, and/or
- their place of habitual residence is in the United Kingdom.
Photos, fingerprints and signatures are recorded digitally at the Consular Office.
Please read the below information only if you cannot present any of the above documents when submitting your application – otherwise please continue with the next section (How much does it cost).
In case you cannot show your previous, still valid passport when you come to the Consular Office, you will need to file an official report on its whereabouts (stolen, lost or destroyed).
In case the applicant cannot prove his/her existing Hungarian citizenship using a Hungarian passport or ID card, a citizenship certificate issued within the previous 3 years, or a naturalisation certificate, and his/her citizenship is not proven either by the Hungarian personal data and address register, and
- his/her marriage and/or divorce solemnised abroad has already been registered in Hungary, the applicant may submit the passport application, however, the new passport can only be issued if the Hungarian citizenship of the applicant is verified by a procedure that the Consular Office has to initiate in such cases. Procedures for the verification of citizenship will extend the passport application process by 6-12 months on average.
Once the citizenship has been verified, the applicant will be entered into the personal data and address register either as a “Hungarian citizen living in Hungary” or as a “Hungarian citizen living abroad” as per his/her choice. The applicant will also receive an address card as proof of his/her entry into the personal data and address register.
- If the applicant’s marriage and/or divorce solemnised abroad has not yet been entered into the Hungarian civil register, submitting a passport application is not possible. Should this be the case, the applicant needs to book an appointment for “Verification of citizenship”. Further information on the procedure can be found by clicking here: "Hungarian citizenship".
The application is subject to fees which must be paid by debit card at the Consular Office.
Passports applied for at our Consular Office are issued in Hungary. Procedure time depends on how you wish to receive the document i.e.
- either delivered to Hungary or abroadand
- collected in person or sent to you by post.
Should the passport be collected in Hungary or be delivered to a Hungarian address, the Consular Office in London has no further duty with the document. The passport authority will deliver the document directly to the requested address.
Should you request the passport to any of the foreign missions, the duration of forwarding the documents is not included in the legal deadline of the procedure.
The Consular Office in London will process the documents in order of their arrival.
Documents for personal collection are usually available within 20-40 days of the date of submission. The duration of the procedure may be extended:
- in case additional documents are required (until their completion)
- if the Hungarian citizenship of the applicant needs to be verified (by 6-12 months)
- during summer and Christmas periods, (by app. 10 days)
Due to the above mentioned reasons the duration of the procedure may be prolonged, therefore it is highly recommended not to purchase any travel tickets prior to receiving the document and checking the personal data contained therein. Please note that the Consular Office does not take responsibility for losses or damages.
The Consular Office is not able to accelerate the procedure. Please note that changing the way of of collection (in person or by post) is not possible at a later time.
Should there be any changes to the postal address provided at the time of the application, it is the responsibility of the applicant to have the postal deliveries redirected to your new address as follows:
- in case of deliveries to a Hungarian address, such enquiries can be made to the provider Magyar Posta;
- in case of deliveries to a UK address, you may enquire at Royal Mail.
The validity of the passport depends on the age of the applicant at the time of the application:
Over 18 years old |
10 years, which starts from the birthday prior to issuing the passport (it will always be less than 10 years) |
In case the applicant was born on 29th February and this day is missing in the year of expiry, the passport will expire on the 28th February.
Applications can only be submitted by booking an appointment as follows:
- If you still have your previous passport and it’s valid, please book for “Passport application”. The duration of the appointment is 15 minutes. Late arrival may result in the loss of the appointment.
- If your previous passport has been lost, stolen or damaged, please book for “Report of stolen or lost passport/ID + replacement”
- The duration of the appointment is 20 minutes. Late arrival may result in the loss of the appointment.
Please note the booking should be made with the personal data of the applicant. Along with the passport application – with the exception of civil registrations and authentications – other case types can be booked for the same appointment as well.

Passport for children between 12-18 years
The information below is regarding children who are Hungarian citizens, are older than 12 years of age but have not yet turned 18 years old at the time of submitting the application and they were either born in Hungary or their birth abroad has already been registered in Hungary (i.e. they have a Hungarian birth certificate).
In the absence of a Hungarian birth certificate, please make sure to read the section on civil registry events first.
The passports contain a signature, a photo and the fingerprints of the applicants.
Please read through the following information below (click on the relevant ’+’ signs):
The application can be submitted in person by the legal representative(s) of the minor acting on his/her behalf.
A minor is under guardianship if no adult exercises parental rights over them, meaning that their legal representative(s) can be either
- both parents holding parental responsibility together, or
- a parent holding parental responsibility on his/her own, or
- the guardian of the minor.
Parents still exercise parental rights together even if they are not living together any longer – with the exception of them having previously agreed or being ordered to do otherwise by social services, or if the parental rights of one of the parents have been ceased, suspended or terminated.
In some circumstances the presence of only one parent (or the guardian) is sufficient, but any child over the age of 12 must be present as well.
A child who legally became of age after getting married in Hungary may apply for passport on his/her own (provided that they present their original marriage certificate).
Passport applications can be submitted in person at the Consular Office of the Hungarian Embassy in London after having booked your appointment.
The Embassy and the Consular Office are not at the same locations. Administrative work, including passport applications, is carried out at the Consular Office at
First Floor, 100 Brompton Road, London, SW3 1ER
The fingerprints of the applicants between the ages of 12 and 18 must be digitally recorded as well, thus the applications cannot be submitted at any of the honorary consuls.
Depending on the exact location of the submission and the number of people authorised to proceed please choose either section 3/A or section 3/B from the drop-down menu and continue with the section “What do we need to bring to the appointment” afterwards:
There is no form to be filled out in advance.
Should the parents visit the Consular Office and submit the passport application for their child together, they both have to sign the form printed and filled out by the administrator, which will also serve as their authorisation for the passport to be issued for the child.
If you have two, three or more children in the household, we kindly ask you to fill out the relevant form as this may affect the fee you have to pay.
The form can be downloaded by clicking here.
In case you are not able to present the child’s valid passport, you must declare the loss/theft of the document in a report which will be printed out at the time of the appointment.
There is no form to be filled out in advance.
In case only one of the parents (or the guardian) appears in person to submit the application, the parent or the guardian will have to sign the form printed and filled out by the administrator which will also serve as their authorisation for the passport to be issued for the child.
Additional necessary documents if
1. only one of the parents comes to the Consular Office, but both parents are on the Hungarian birth certificate:
- the original parental consent form of the absent parent must be attached, OR
- the termination, revoking or suspension of parental responsibility of the absent parent must be verified by presenting the original agreement of the parents set forth in a court of law, or the death certificate of the other parent, etc.;
2. the guardian visits the Consular Office with the child: - the guardian will need to present the original Hungarian guardianship order stating that the name of the father on the Hungarian birth certificate is that of an imaginary father only (i.e. there is no person to be considered as father).
Parental consent form can be done:
The parent coming to the appointment has to bring along the printed version of the electronic consent form with a QR code on it.
Forms must be filled out and signed with blue ink pen and the parent submitting the application must present the original form when visiting the Consular Office.
Regarding passport applications the form of parental consent must be dated within 15 days of the appointment, otherwise the Consular Office will not be able to accept it.
Decree of a Hungarian court can only be accepted if it can no longer be challenged and is absolute.
Court decree (e.g. child arrangement order) can only be accepted if
- the child has British citizenship, and/or
- the child’s actual habitual residence in the United Kingdom, and
- the decree specifically entitles and authorises one of the parents to apply for passport without the other parent’s consent (specific issue order).
The Consular Office is not able to accept the document if it only states which parent the child is placed with (live with order).
The form can be downloaded by clicking here.
In case you are not able to present the child’s valid passport, you must declare the loss/theft of the document in a report which will be printed out at the time of the appointment.
In order to submit the application, you must bring along all the documents below that are available to you:
- valid Hungairan passport or ID card of the Hungarian parent (guardian);
- the non-Hungaran parent’s (guardian) valid passport, or ID card/ driving licence – not provisional – issued by the United Kingdom/ EEA member state;
- If the parents exercise custody jointly, but only one of them appears in person, the signed consent form by the other parent;
- if the parent appearing in person exercises custody rights alone but the other parent is also on the child’s birth certificate, the document verifying the suspension of custody rights of the absent parent (e.g.: court decision, death certificate);
- if application is submitted by a guardian, the court decision appointing the guardian (if the original document is in English then a legalized Hungarian translation is also needed);
- original Hungarian birth certificate of the child;
- the valid passport of the child or one that has expired within a year;
- in the adbsence of a passport, the child’s valid ID or one that has expired within a year (if applicable);
- Hungarian address card of the child;
- marriage certificate of the child who legally became of age after getting married in Hungary
The decision of a Hungarian court can be accepted if it can no longer be challenged/ appealed by ordinary legal remedies. (Final order/ Decree Absolute)
The decision of a British court (e.g.:. child arrangement order) can be accepted if:
- the child also holds British citizenship and/or
- their habitual residence is in the United Kingdom, and
- the decision sepcifically states that the parent being present can apply for a passport for the child alone (without the consent of the other parent) (e.g.: specific issue order).It is not enough if the decision only stipulates which parent the child should live with (live with order), and
- it is provided with a legalized Hungarian translation.
You can find further information about British court decisions and applications here
The photograph, fingerprint and signature are recorded digitally at the Consular Office.
In the absence of the above-mentioned documents please read the next section (If something is missing)
Please read the following information only if you are unable to present the documents mentioned in the previous section – otherwise you may move onto the next section “How much does it cost”.
If the parents are unable to prove their identity with valid documents, they will have to apply for their own passport or ID card first.
In case the child does not have a Hungarian birth certificate because his/her birth has not yet been registered in Hungary, please read the section regarding Civil registrations.
If the parents are unable to present the child’s valid passport at the time of the appointment, the appropriate report of it being lost, stolen or destroyed must be taken as well.
If the birth of the child has already been registered in Hungary but the child’s Hungarian citizenship cannot be confirmed with documents such as a passport (or one that has expired not more than a year ago), an ID card, a citizenship certificate (issued not longer than 3 years ago) or a naturalisation certificate, and the child cannot be found in the Personal Data and Address Register (i.e. the child never had an address card), the application can be submitted but the passport can only be issued after the child has gone through a verification of citizenship process. In such cases, the verification of citizenship process is mandatory and could delay the passport application by 6-12 months.
Once the child’s citizenship has been confirmed, based on the parents’ or the guardians’ choice he/she will automatically be entered in the Personal Data and Address Register either as a “Hungarian citizen living in Hungary” or as a “Hungarian citizen living abroad” depending on the parents’ addresses registered in the Personal Data and Address Register.
The application is subject to fees, which must be paid by debit card at the consular office.
Passports applied for at our Consular Office are issued in Hungary. The duration of the procedure depends on whether you wish to have the document
- delivered to Hungary or abroad, and
- collected or sent to you via post.
Taking the above into account, the total duration of the procedure is usually 20-40 days (including postal delivery).
Should the passport be collected in Hungary or delivered to a Hungarian address, the Consular Office in London has no further tasks with the document. The passport authority will deliver the document directly to the requested address.
Should you request the passport to be delivered to a foreign mission other than London, the passport will be sent to the consulate you chose by diplomatic courier after the passport authority forwarded the document to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The duration of such transfers is not included in the legal deadline of the procedure.
The consular office in London will process the documents in order of their arrival and will post them or notify customers choosing personal collection afterwards.
Documents are usually available for collection within 20-40 days from the date of submission. The duration of the procedure may be extended
- with the time of receiving a deficiency order and the time of its completion;
- if the applicant needs to go through the process of citizenship verification (approximately 6-12 months);
- during the summer and Christmas period, due to the smaller frequency of the diplomatic courier (about 10 days);
- if the child does not have a Hungarian birth certificate, with the length of the birth registration procedure;
Considering the fact that due to the above circumstances the duration of the procedure may be prolonged, it is highly recommended not to purchase any travel tickets prior to receiving the document and checking the personal data contained therein. Please note that the Consular Office does not take any responsibilities for losses or damages.
The consular office is unable to intervene in the process of issuing the document. Please note that the modification of your declaration regarding the method of collection (in person or via post) is not possible at a later time.
Should there be any changes to the postal address provided at the time of the application, it is the responsibility of the applicant to have the postal deliveries redirected to their new address as follows:
- in case of deliveries to a Hungarian address, such enquiries can be made to the provider Magyar Posta;
- in case of deliveries to a UK address, you may enquire at Royal Mail.
The validity of the passport depends on the age of the applicant at the time of the application:
between the age of 12-18 |
it is 5 years, which starts from the birthday following the issuance of the passport (hence it will always be more than 5 years) |
If the child was born on 29th February and this day is missing in the year of expiry, the passport will expire on the 28th February.
Applications can only be submitted by booking an appointment as follows:
- if your child still has his/her previous passport, please book for “Passport application” to the Consular Office in London
The duration of the appointment is 15 minutes. Late arrival may result in the loss of the appointment.
- if your child’s previous passport has been lost, stolen or damaged, please book for “Report of stolen or lost passport/ID + replacement” to the Consular Office in London.
The duration of the appointment is 20 minutes. Late arrival may result in the loss of the appointment.
Please note that the booking should be completed with the data of the child you wish to have a new passport issued for. Along with the passport application – with the exception of civil registrations and authentications – other case types can be booked for the same appointment as well.
You can book an appointment at the consular office in London by clicking here.

Parental consent form can be done:
the parent coming to the appointment has to bring along the printed version of the electronic consent form with a QR code on it
or
Forms must be filled out and signed with blue ink pen and the parent submitting the application must present the original form when visiting the Consular Office.

More details about British court orders and how to apply for them can be found here.
If you have two, three or more children in the household, we kindly ask you to fill out the relevant form as this may affect the fee you have to pay.

Application at the honorary consul can only be submitted if the child is under 12 years of age and the child has a Hungarian birth certificate. You must book an appointment with one of the Honorary Consuls.
Should you wish to submit your application this way, you need to fill out an application form in advance. Forms must be filled out with a blue ink pen, and signed and dated in front of the honorary consul.

In case the parents exercise parental rights together, the parent that is absent from the appointment has to fill out a consent form that the other parent must bring along (strictly the original, signed copy is accepted) when coming to the honorary consul.
With this declaration the absent parent is confirming his/her consent for a passport to be issued for the child, as well as for the entry of the child into the Hungarian personal data and address register (if they have not been registered yet, i.e. they have never had an address card before).

Our postal address is the following:
Embassy of Hungary, Consular Office
First Floor, 100 Brompton Road, London, SW3 1ER
The original birth certificate and the – invalidated – previous passport of the child will be sent back to the applicant together with the new passport, therefore we kindly ask for a cover letter to be attached to the application, in which you include your postal address. The decision of a Hungarian court can be accepted if it can no longer be challenged/ appealed by ordinary legal remedies. (Final order/ Decree Absolute)
The decision of a British court (e.g. child arrangement order) can be accepted if:
- the child also holds British citizenship and/or
- their habitual residence is in the United Kingdom, and
- the decision sepcifically states that the parent being present can apply for a passport for the child alone (without the consent of the other parent) (e.g.: specific issue order).
It is not enough if the decision only stipulates which parent the child should live with (live with order), and - it is provided with a legalized Hungarian translation.
You can find further information about British court decisions and applications here
In the absence of the above-mentioned documents please read the next section (If something is missing)
The report shouls only be completed in advance if the application is submitted at an honorary consul. (see 3/B and 3/D).
The application is subject to fees which must be paid by debit card at the consular office.
In the case of applications initiated at one of the honorary consuls, the procedural fee and consular fee must be paid in the form of postal order to the „Embassy of Hungary” with the exact amount. Please ask for the correct amount in GBP by emailing konz.lon@mfa.gov.hu.
- with the time of receiving a deficiency order and the time of its completion;
- if the applicant needs to go through the process of citizenship verification (approximately 6-12 months);
- during the summer and Christmas period, due to the smaller frequency of the diplomatic courier (about 10 days);
- if the child does not have a Hungarian birth certificate, with the length of the birth registration procedure;
- in case of deliveries to a Hungarian address, such enquiries can be made to the provider Magyar Posta;
- in case of deliveries to a UK address, you may enquire at Royal Mail.
The validity of the passport depends on the age of the applicant at the time of the application:
Until the age of 6 |
3 years, which starts from the birthday following the issuance of the passport (it always will be more than 3 years)) |
between the age of 6-12 |
5 years, which starts from the birthday following the issuance of the passport (it always will be more than 5 years) |
If the child was born on 29th February and this day is missing in the year of expiry, the passport will expire on the 28th February.
Applications can only be submitted by booking an appointment as follows:
- if your child still has his/her previous passport, please book for “Passport application” to the Consular Office in London
The duration of the appointment is 15 minutes. Late arrival may result in the loss of the appointment.
- if your child’s previous passport has been lost, stolen or damaged, please book for “Report of stolen or lost passport/ID + replacement” to the consular office in London
The duration of the appointment is 20 minutes. Late arrival may result in the loss of the appointment.

You can book an appointment at the consular office in London by clicking here.

(A kiskorú elektronikus személyazonosító igazolvány igénylésére vonatkozó eljárásban nincs ilyen korlátozás.)
A fizetendő konzuli felülhitelesítési díj összege a "Konzuli díjak" résznél található.
A felülhitelesítéssel ellátott iratot öt munkanapon belül postázzuk.
Emergency travel document
Hungarian citizens can exercise their right to travel abroad primarily with a valid passport or ID card. Some countries may require the travel document to be valid for a specified period of time after entry.
The following information is for those whose Hungarian passport or ID card has become unsuitable for proof of identity, has been damaged, expired, lost or stolen but they urgently need to travel back to Hungary or the country of their habitual residence.
The fastest way of obtaining a travel document:
1. If you have another valid travel document in Hungary or in the country of your usual place of residence, you could have it sent to you by your family or friends.
You can travel from the UK to the European Union, including Hungary, with a valid Hungarian ID card.
2. Through the Client Portal, using Webes Ügysegéd, you can immediately report the loss or damage of the passport and request the replacement of the document.
To be able to request the replacement of a passport electronically, you must have given consent for your fingerprints to be stored when you applied for the previous document.
The new document is issued with the same data, photo and the expiry date of the original passport but its number and the date of issue will differ.
The replacement of the passport can only be requested online by clicking here:
Request for the replacement of a passport.
3. You book an appointment to submit an application for a new passport or ID card to the consular office in the UK that is the closest to your place of residence without any delay.
In case you do not wish to submit your application for a travel document in London, you may choose any of the other options available on the British Isles (you can get directly to their websites by clicking on the relevant city names):
If you apply for a regular travel document at the Consular Office in London, carefully read the contents of the sections „Passport application” or „ID card application”.
Should there be lack of time for the above, you may be eligible to be issued a emergency/temporary passport which entitles you to a one-time entry to Hungary or into the territory of your country of habitual residence. The passport becomes invalid after entry and is not suitable for onward travel. The emergency/temporary passport must be handed in within 5 working days at a [központi okmányirodában vagy valamely járási hivatalnál] or a foreign mission abroad.
The issuance of the emergency/temporary passport is not based on whether the ticket for the desired trip has already been purchased or not.
Characteristics of the temporary passport: it contains a signature, a photograph but does contain fingerprints.
Application for an emergency/temporary passport is subject to general rules in the appropriate age limit menu of „Passport application” with the following exceptions.
A Hungarian citizen may apply for an emergency/temporary passport if they only travelled to the United Kingdom for a short period of time (e.g. for tourism) but for some reason were left without a travel document and due to lack of time, they are unable to obtain a permanent passport or ID card.
A Hungarian citizen living (resident) in the United Kingdom may submit an application for an emergency/temporary passport only in cases deserving special consideration, which are as follows:
- there has been a sudden change in their life situation due to which they wish to return to Hungary permanently and are unable to wait for the completion of a regular passport or ID card application, or
- the urgency of their trip to Hungary is justified by the death (funeral) of a close relative, or by a court order.
If the above does not apply to the Hungarian citizen living in the United Kingdom, they must apply for a permanent passport or ID card.
If their previous passport has already expired, referring to tickets that have already been purchased does not justify the need for an emergency/temporary passport if the applicant has not previously attempted to apply for a permanent passport or ID card.
In addition to the documents listed in the relevant age group sections of „Passport application”, it is also necessary to submit:
- Documents supporting the reason of the urgency of the trip to Hungary, e.g. a tourist’s round-trip plane, bus, ferry or Channel tunnel ticket.
- If the birth of the child has not been registered in Hungary, the detailed British birth certificate containing the names of both parents.
When applying for a temporary passport, the relevant form has to be filled out in advance. You must use a blue ink pen for filling it out, signing it and dating/putting a date on it.
The form can be downloaded from here.
Should the parents submit an application for their child together, by signing the application form they confirm giving consent for the issuance of the passport for the child.
In case such an application for a minor is submitted by one of the parents on their own, they shall proceed according to the section of “Application for passports” relevant to the particular age group (e.g. attaching the form of parental consent in case of the parents cannot be present at the time of the application).
When submitting an application for a temporary passport for a minor or a person under guardianship, the consent of the parents (legal guardians) does not need to be provided if the valid passport or ID card of the minor (the person under guardianship) is damaged to an extent where it cannot be used for identification, is lost or has been stolen. Should this be the case, the validity of the emergency/temporary passport to be issued must not exceed the validity of the previous passport.
The application form must be filled out and signed using the name that is registered in the Hungarian databases and in accordance with the Hungarian [naming rules and regulations] (1. surname, 2. given name(s)). The signature shall remain within the given frame without touching it at all.
In case your passport or ID card is destroyed, lost or has been stolen, you shall proceed as described in the section “Report of stolen or lost passport/ID” (submitting a report to the British police and also reporting the occurrence to the relevant Hungarian authorities). The latter report can be submitted together with the application for the temporary passport, but may also be submitted beforehand, even using online government services.
Issuing a temporary passport involves a consular administration fee payable by debit card at the Consular Office in London.
In the case of citizens in trouble abroad applications are assessed and temporary passports are issued by the consul on the same day. In other cases the procedure takes 8 days if the application and its annexes are complete and the facts are clear.
The consul will issue the temporary passport with a validity expiring no later than 5 days after the intended day of travel proven by the already purchased travel ticket.
In case you are not able to collect the document in person, it will be posted to you – for this, you will need to bring along an addressed and stamped (“Special Delivery”) envelope. If you fail to do so, an additional fee for the postage shall be paid.
All appointments for temporary passports are allocated strictly after contacting us via e-mail beforehand. For the appointment to be approved, your email must contain all supporting circumstances and any documents and evidence proving the urgency of your travel.
The duration of the appointment is 15-25 minutes.
We aimed to summarise the steps of the process of the collection of the new documents while paying particular attention to answering the most frequently asked questions. Should the information provided not be relevant to your case, please be so kind and get in touch with us via email.

A személyes ügyintézés feltétele az előzetes időpontfoglalás itt: https://konzinfoidopont.mfa.gov.hu ("konzuli igazolás" ügytípusra + szükség esetén jegyzőkönyv felvételéhez "Útlevél, személyi igazolvány elvesztése, eltulajdonítása" ügytípusra IS).

A vezetői engedélyekről szóló 2006/126/EK Irányelv alapján létrehozott RESPER alkalmazás segítségével az EU tagállamok közlekedési hatóságai közvetlenül is ellenőrizhetik egymás engedély-nyilvántartásában a cseréhez leadott vezetői engedélyeket, így a brit központi hatóságnak (DVLA) is van lehetősége a RESPER rendszeren belül ellenőrizni a Magyarországon kiadott vezetői engedélyeket.
A TB kártya ügyében az Nemzeti Egészségbiztosítási Alapkezelő (NEA) központi szervéhez, illetve ügyfélszolgálati kirendeltségeihez, míg az adókártya ügyében a Nemzeti Adó- és Vámhivatal (NAV) ügyfélszolgálatához kell fordulnia.

Legalisation
Legalisation of signatures, translations and copies of documents
You can apply for legalisation at the Consulate, Honorary Consuls or Notaries Public. Please note that the possibilities for legalisation by Honorary Consuls and by Notaries Public are limited.
I., Legalisation at the Consulate
1., Appointment:
Appointments can be booked directly through our Appointment Booking System: https://konzinfobooking,mfa.gov.hu;
For further information please go to: ”Useful consular information”. For information about the fees please visit the following link: “Consular fees”.
If you need more than one document legalised, please amend the number of applicants accordingly.
2., Legalisation of signatures
There are two ways to have your signature legalised by the Consular Section of the Embassy of Hungary in London:
• you sign the document in the presence of the consul; or
• you recognise the signature on the document as yours in the presence of the consul.
Legalisation of a signature means that the consul checks the identity of the signatory person but does not take responsibility for the content of the document. The document should be prepared by the applicant in advance. The Consulate is not entitled to draw up the document. Should you need more copies of the legalised document, same day service cannot be guaranteed. In some cases, the legalised documents are returned via post within 10 calendar days. Information on the expected timeline can be provided at the time of the application. In order to avoid any inconvenience you are kindly requested to inform the consulate in advance on the number of the documents to be signed (consulate.lon@mfa.gov.hu)
The applicant should appear in person at the Consulate and should present his/her valid passport, ID card or driving licence. Please note that your application will be rejected if you fail to present one of these documents.
For information about the fees please visit the following link:“Consular fees”. (Fees vary on the basis of the number of the documents/signatories).
In case you would like to sign on behalf of a company (or other organisation) you should present the certificate of incorporation of the company. Certificate of incorporation shall have been issued within the previous 30 days.
2.a ) Life certificate
A Life Certificate is used by the the Hungarian Pension Fund Administration to check that a person living outside Hungary can still get a Hungarian state pension. To this end the Hungarian Pension Fund Administration sends a form for data reconciliation purposes every March to the pensioners. The form must be returned (accurately filled out, signed and authenticated) within one month of receipt. Please note that not only the consul is authorized to legalise the handwritten signature of the person entitled to benefits on the form, but also a British notary, pension insurance body, other British authority, pension fund, payment service provider (bank). If the pensioner is staying in a healthcare or social institution due to their health or social situation, the authenticity of the data can also be verified by the head of the institution or a doctor.
If you wish to have your signature legalised at the Consular Office you need to book an appointment through the online appointment booking system. The process is free of charge.
Please contact the Hungarian Pension Fund Administration directly with any questions regarding data reconciliation (e.g. whether they accept authentication from a specific British authority, deadlines, etc.). You can find their contact details by clicking here.

a) Register online or in Hungary
The easiest and fastest way to do the registration is using the eGovernment service, the so-called Client Gate (ügyfélkapu), or in person in Hungary at a government window (Kormanyablak) or district office (Kormányhivatal). In the latter case, you will immediately receive your new address card that will display the following: ‘Residence: Foreign Address’ (without any further specification).

The procedure of the application is expected to take up to 3 months, as the application is sent to Hungary to the government window or district office of your Hungarian address and your newly issued address card will be mailed afterwards to the Consulate.
The application may only be submitted in person. Appointments shall be scheduled using our online booking system. For appointment, please select “Declaration of settlement abroad”. Please note that children between the ages of 14-18 must appear in person and sign the forms as well. For the application of minors, both parents must be present as a general rule.
