The following information is for those who applied for passport or ID card in Hungary or at any other foreign mission but in London, and they requested the documents to be sent to the consular office in London.

Once the consular office receives the documents, we will then notify our clients on the email address they have provided during their application. Please note, that in the absence of their contact details, the consular office will not be able to inform anyone, which could be very common in a case of a passport application

Should you not receive a notification within 30 days from the application, please get in touch with us via email.

Please choose the method of collection that you opted for when submitting your application from the list below.

Please note that the modification of your declaration regarding the method of collection (in person or via post) is not possible at a later time.

Should you wish to use your newly issued travel document for an upcoming trip, it is highly recommended to not purchase any travel tickets prior to receiving the document and checking the personal data contained therein.

+Collection of passports in the consular office of London

Passport applied for at a different office can be collected in the consular office in London by booking an appointment to the following case type „Collection of passports applied for in Hungary”

The duration of the appointment is 5 minutes. Late arrival may result in the loss of the appointment.

When coming to your appointment, please make sure you bring along:

  • the application form given to you by your consular administrator, and
  • your previous passport to be invalidated, in case it was given back to you at the time of your application).

 

Passports applied for in Hungary have a consular administration fee (40 EUR) which you have to pay when collecting your document. Please note that you can only pay by debit card.

Passports applied for at a foreign mission other than London do not have an outstanding consular assistance fee as this was already paid to the relevant consular office.

Minors’ passports may be collected by any of the parents entitled to submit the application on their own – however, they must present a valid form of identification (passport, ID card or driving licence).

Passports are stored by the consular office for a year. Any passports not collected within a year from the receipt of our first notification email will be sent back to Hungary to the issuing authority for having them destroyed.

+Collection of ID cards in the Consular Office in London

You may collect your ID card applied for in Hungary or at a foreign mission other than London by booking an appointment to the case type „Collection of passports applied for in Hungary”.

When coming to your appointment, please make sure you bring along:

  • the application form given to you by your consular administrator, and
  • the envelope containing the PIN card that you were given at the time of your application (you will still be able to collect and use the ID card without the PIN card – please refer to the information below), and
  • your previous ID card to be invalidated, in case it was given back to you at the time of your application.

Children over the age of 14 may collect their ID cards without the need for parental consent.

The activation of the electronic function of the ID card is to be done with the assistance of our colleague upon collection. You will need to have the PIN card ready and provide a 6-digit code of your choice.

If your PIN card is lost before the activation, you may have it replaced only in a government office in Hungary. Our colleagues at the consular office cannot recover the PUK code that was blocked when entering the incorrect PIN.

You cannot start using the electronic functions assigned to your ID card without having them activated by using the PIN card first – however, you will still be able to use your ID card itself for travel purposes and for personal identification.

ID cards are stored by the consular office for a year. Any ID cards not collected within a year from the receipt of our first notification email will be sent back to Hungary to the issuing authority for having them destroyed.

+Postal delivery of passports

If you requested postal delivery for your passport, please make sure you get in touch with us via email to notify us about your request. Please provide us with your full address and attach the followings to your email:

  • the application form,
  • an identification document (passport, ID card or driving license)

Passports applied for in Hungary can only be posted once the consular administration fee (contact us by email for the exact amount)  has been paid.

Passports applied for at a foreign mission other than London do not have an outstanding consular assistance fee as this was already paid to the relevant consular office.

For postal delivery, first you will need to send us the following:

  • your previous passport to be invalidated, in case it was given back to you at the time of your application.
  • Postal Order issued to „Embassy of Hungary” with the exact amount (contact us by email for the exact amount). Please note that the consular administration fee is only applicable when the passport was applied for in Hungary.

The consular office in London uses Royal Mail services („signed for” delivery) to send the documents. All deliveries receive their unique tracking number generated automatically by Royal Mail on the day of postage

The consular office in London does not take any responsibility for the Royal Mail services or for any losses or damages that may occur during delivery.

Any passports returned back to the consular office in London and marked as ‘not called for’ are stored for one year. Any passports not collected within a year from the receipt of our first notification email will be sent back to Hungary to the issuing authority for having them destroyed.

+Postal delivery of ID cards

As a main rule, new ID cards cannot be delivered by post as the activation of its electronic function has to be done with the assistance of our colleagues.

Activating the PIN code can be done from the comfort of your home using the eSzeméyiM mobile application. 

A smartphone with the following main parameters is required for using the eSzemélyiM application:

  • operating system Android 7 or iOS 13 or higher
  • NFC reading capability
  • Internet connection – on a network shared with the computer

With the eSzemélyiM mobile application you can use your smartphone as a card reader as well, it can thus substitute special USB card readers. The card reading function is only available on Android smartphones.

If you still choose postal delivery, after taking the above information into consideration, please get in touch with us via e-mail and notify us about your request that your ID card should be posted to your address once it has arrived at the consular office. Please provide us with your full address and attach the followings to your email:

  • the application form,
  • identification document (passport, ID card or driving license)

Should you still have your currently valid ID card, please post it to us as we will need to invalidate it before sending the new one out.
