Application for a secondary passport is subject to the same rules as described in the Passport Application section with the following exceptions:

Secondary passports can be issued for:

1. Hungarian citizens with passports who are not entitled to an official passport, but their occupation involves regular traveling abroad – proof (written statement) from the employer is required.

Validity (a):

the duration of the term of employment, but not exceeding 5 years, which starts on the birthday after the issuance of the document.

2. Hungarian citizens requesting it for reasons deserving of special consideration.

The passport authority considers it a circumstance of special consideration, if entry to a country might be denied because of already existing registrations in the passport (e.g. visa issued by another country), or if the applicant could suffer other legal disadvantages as a consequence.

Validity (b):

5 years, which starts on the birthday after the issuance of the document (so it is always more than 5 years)

If you were born on February 29 and this day is missing from the year when the passport expires then the validity of the secondary passport will end on February 28.

Secondary passports can also be applied for online through Webes Ügysegéd if the applicant agreed to have their fingerprints stored during the application of their other, valid passport. The secondary passport is issued with the same data except for the document number and date of issue.

Secondary passports can be requested online by clicking here.

Client portal registration is required for online passport applications.
