Prime Minister Viktor Orbán travelled to London on 9 November 2016 for a one-day working visit accompanied by Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér and Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó. The British Prime Minister Theresa May received them in her office and they discussed bilateral relations and world affairs.

The most important outcome of the meeting was an agreement over the issue of workers’ rights. Both prime ministers agreed that the issue must be settled on the basis of the principle of reciprocity, meaning that if there is no curtailment of the rights acquired by British citizens residing in Europe, the position of the British government is that naturally neither can there be curtailment of the rights of EU nationals working in Britain.

The importance of bilateral economic relations was also acknowledged. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated, that “it is in our interest that the trade aspect of British-Hungarian relations should continue to be open and free in the future”.
