At a ceremony at the Embassy of Hungary in London on 11 July 2018 Ambassador Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, on behalf of János Áder, President of Hungary, presented the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary to Norman Irons.
The award is in recognition for his long standing activity in protecting and promoting the interests and rights of Hungary and its citizens in Scotland, as well as in strengthening economic, cultural, commercial and scientific relations between Hungary and the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Szalay-Bobrovniczky pointed out that Mr Irons performed his work with outstanding efficiency and professionalism, showing empathy towards those Hungarians who needed his help. At the same time utilizing his excellent relations with actors of politics and economy, with the Academy, Arts and the Churches for the benefit of Hungary.
Norman Irons said in his acceptance speech that it was a pleasure and privilege for him to work with Hungarians and work for the welfare of Hungarian people.
