On 21 May, Hungary celebrates the National Defence Day, honouring all those serving in the Hungarian Defence Force.

To mark this day, Ambassador Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and Defence Attaché Col Viktor Makay welcomed officers from the UK's Ministry of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the British Armed Forces, the diplomatic corps and other civilian partners at the Embassy for a reception.

In his speech, Ambassador Szalay-Bobrovniczky praised Hungary’s past military accomplishments and successes, while Colonel Makay highlighted the objectives of the Zrínyi 2026 military development scheme and Hungary’s international engagement, adding that Hungary is proud to be serving in international cooperations, such as NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission, which - joined by the UK and Spain - Hungary currently leads.
