Minister Péter Szijjártó arrived for a one-day visit in London, where he met Secretary of State for Defence and Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. To mark the completion of the Hungarian V4 Presidency he held a lecture about foreign policy challenges facing Central-Europe in the imposing Chatham House.

Before meeting high level government officials the Minister held a keynote speech at a conference organised by the London Stock Exchange on the V4 capital markets, where he referred to the Visegrad 4 as the growth engine of Europe.

Afterwards he met Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson and Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Greg Clark to discuss future bilateral relations.

In his statement to the Hungarian News Agency, Minister Szijjártó explained that “Hungary regards the maintaining of security cooperation with the UK as extremely important in view of the fact that the EU is facing major security-related challenges, with relation to which British intelligence and defence capacities cannot be ignored”.

The Minister later the evening held a lecture in Chatham House titled ’The European and Foreign policy challenges: The V4 perspective’.  The official visit concluded with the annual Gala Dinner of the UK-Hungary Business Council, a forum formed in 2016 for the representatives of the biggest British investors in Hungary.
